Biography

Nina Mdivani is a fashion and costume designer, and business proprietor. She has always challenged the most obvious way of doing things, thereby achieving a very personal style of her own.

She has a history all of her own which ties the Georgian famous Mdivani family to the Parisian Serts to the Chopin traditions of Poland. Nina was raised in Poland where she received a diploma in costume design. She grew up with music and art, and from the age of four, her whole world focussed on art and form. She began drawing brilliantly idiosyncratic fashions which led to designing opera and theatrical costumes for four major Warsaw theatres.

Designers, artists and actors also wore her Haute Couture creations

She came to Canada via Africa in 1982. She launched a few design companies which supplied ladies and kids sportswear to Holt Renfrew and Sporting Life among others. She also designed for private customers – business women, actors and artists who needed distinguished, elegant exquisite styles.

From 1989 to 1992 She designed for movies, tv, video productions and theatre.

This rich experience has now passed through the proving period of putting together a mature yet amusante collection of clothing. Pared down in content and style, the Nina Mdivani collection leads to various moods and personalities and is as Nina says “for a certain woman regardless of her age. All she needs is a love of drama and fun that shows in her eyes.”

She was born as Beata Lewiecka daughter of Pawel Lewiecki concert pianist (See reference document), married to Piotr Marzynski Architect ( www.phddesign.ca). Nina Mdivani  name is a referral to her Fathers Family (see Family History) .

“The choice of fabric is always impeccable and they travel marvelously. They are so well constructed, with surprising couture details. Their charm is that they take on my character, rather than imposing a look.
